| EdgeStar air coolers are not air conditioners. While often confused with air conditioners, air coolers have no compressor or refrigerant sealed systems such as A/Cs do. A better way to envision them are as a souped-up fans- cooling the air in front of them (by up to 12°F), but not an entire room. |

| Portable air cooler's are cold air "throwers" |
| EdgeStar air coolers effectively cool by combining the natural process of water evaporation with a simple, reliable air-moving system. Fresh filtered air is pulled through a saturated wick where it is cooled by evaporation, thus becoming water vapor and "thrown" (circulated) in to a room by a fan. Durring this process, the temperature of the water vapor in the air stream is lowered by as much as 12 degrees. |

| Air coolers are often called "evaporative" or "swamp" coolers |
| Because evaporative coolers add moisture to the air, they are sometimes referred to as "swamp coolers" or "evaporative coolers." They can work wonderfully well, provided the air they are drawing in is dry. Air coolers work ideally in dry climates. Highly humid climates, however, are not effective locations for air coolers since they rely on water evaporating to produce a cool air stream. Air coolers also humidify the air, and are not a good option for cooling servers or electrical equipment. |

| Air coolers are spot coolers |
| As noted above EdgeStar air coolers are not air conditioners. Rather they povide spot cooling, a drop in temperature directly infront of the unit, to an area. Since these units do not dispel heat out of a room, they recycle the ambient air temperature of a room and decrease the air temperature in the direction that the fan is blowing. |
