Powerful and affordable portable
air conditioner units |
|
| Portable air conditioner units work on the same principles as
"normal" air conditioners. |
 |
| Air conditioners are heat movers. |
| Think of an air conditioner as a heat mover. For example, if
you are cooling a room with a window air conditioner, the part of the unit that
juts into your room is actually removing heat from the air that it blows out.
This is why that air feels "cold" to you. The heat is then cycle to
the outside-of-your-window part of the machine. This part dissipates the heat
into the air. Thus, heat from inside your room is moved to outside your room
and your room gets colder! |
|
 |
| Air conditioners dehumidify the air as they cool. |
| Dehumidification is a side effect of air conditioning. For
example, most window air conditioners remove moisture from inside your room and
drip it outside your room. |
|
 |
| Portable conditioners are heat movers. |
| Portable air conditioners move heat from inside your room to
outside your room. Since portable air conditioners are physically located
entirely within your room, they have an exhaust hose that expels heat from your
room. This hose must be routed out a window, through a wall, into a drop
ceiling, etc. This heat must go somewhere outside the room being cooled. |
|
 |
| Portable air conditioners dehumidify as they cool. |
| Just like "normal" air conditioners, portable air
conditioners dehumidify the air as they cool it and they collect this water
(called condensate) in an internal bucket. There are several ways for portable
air conditioners to collect and dispose of condensate. Many portable air
conditioners use an internal bucket that must be manually emptied every few
hours. EdgeStar portable air conditioners use a system that evaporates
most or all condensate automatically. |
